This article introduces total-factor energy productivity change index (TFEPI) based on the concept of total-factor energy efficiency and the Luenberger productivity index to evaluate the energy productivity change of regions in China with a total-factor framework. Moreover, the TFEPI can be decomposed into change in energy efficiency and shift in the energy use technology. According to the computation results, China’s energy productivity was decreasing by 1.4% per year during 2000–2004. The average total-factor energy efficiency improves about 0.6% per year, while total-factor energy technical change declines progressively 2% annually. The factors affecting TFEPI are also examined: (1) The east area has a higher TFEPI than the central and west area; (2) increasing the development status and electricity share of energy consumption will improve the region’s TFEPI performance, while increasing the proportion of GDP generated by the secondary industry deteriorates TFEPI of a region. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Total Factor Productivity Growth, Technical Change and Technical Efficiency Change in Asian Economies: Decomposition Analysis
The aim of this paper is to analyze total factor productivity (TFP) growth and its components in Asian countries applying Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to the time series data of 44 Asian countries from 2000 to 2010. Using Battese and Coelli approach, TFP is divided into technical efficiency change and technical change. TFP decomposition using SFA method for the years 1998 to 2007 indicate...
متن کاملDecomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran
The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...
متن کاملHigher education, technical efficiency and total productivity changes: evidence from Iran's manufacturing industries
The purpose of this article was to estimate the effect of higher education on total productivity changes and technical efficiency in the 4-digit classification code of ISIC in Iran during the period of 1994-04. In this regard, a two-way stage approach was used. In the first stage, Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) and technical efficiency index by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic...

This paper estimates total productivity change over time and de-composes it into technically efficient change and technological change for an Iranian Tile and Ceramic Industry with combining Data Envel-opment Analysis and Malmquist Productivity index. In combining these two techniques the outputs from DEA are used as inputs for Malmquist productivity index. In the current study, Tile and Cerami...
متن کاملTechnical Efficiency, Technological Change and Total Factor Productivity Growth in Chinese State-Owned Enterprises in the Early 1990s
Based on a framework proposed by Battese and Coelli (1995), we estimated the stochastic frontier production function for four Chinese industries: building materials, chemicals, machinery and textiles during 1990–1994. The type of technological change is tested and total factor productivity (TFP) growth is calculated for each industry. We found no evidence of technological change in the building...
